Our Brazil Alumina operation is helping to transform the lives of young people from one of Rio de Janeiro’s most disadvantaged communities
At our Brazil Alumina operation, we’re helping to transform the lives of young people from one of Rio de Janeiro’s most disadvantaged communities, Maré. We’re doing this through supporting the The Orquestra Maré do Amanhã project, which aims to give students living in the neighbourhood the chance to learn music, discipline, team work and collective citizenship.
Our investment will help the project continue providing classes for children as young as three years old enrolled in Maré’s public school system. The most talented students in the project are selected for The Orquestra Maré do Amanhã, which performs all around Brazil and other countries.
We invited the first generation of the project’s musicians (18-20 age group) to Brazil Alumina to learn about the aluminium industry. It gave our employees the chance to teach them about our operations, but also to inspire them through sharing personal experiences.
