Communities and society

Our approach

We are committed to improving people’s lives by creating lasting social, environmental and economic value where we operate. We do this by providing jobs and business opportunities, paying taxes and royalties, developing local suppliers and supporting community programs.

Trust and transparency are central to the way we operate. We listen to our stakeholders to understand what’s important to them and work together to create shared value.

Investing in this vision

From providing jobs and business opportunities, to empowering suppliers and supporting community programs, we know we can make a positive contribution to the way people live and work.

That’s why we consider community needs. Whether it means hiring and buying locally, or managing the impacts of our operations, we listen to people and act on the issues they raise.

To us, building these relationships is common sense. The stronger our communities are, the better we can work together, thrive together and create a positive legacy together.

Living by this vision

We follow through on what we say, our Sustainability Policy, Code of Business Conduct and adherence to the United Nations Global Compact principles helps us do this. This guides the way we do things internally and helps us assess our work with local communities and development programs.

Partnering with communities

Partnering with communities

Guided by our purpose and driven by our values, being transparent and building relationships based on trust are essential to the way we operate.

We are passionate about supporting and working with the communities where we operate. We actively engage with stakeholders to understand their interests and aspirations and identify opportunities to work together to create shared value.

Societal contribution

Societal contribution

With our local focus and global reach, we are proud to support the local communities in which we work while positively contributing to society more broadly.

We pay our taxes and royalties, provide jobs, develop local suppliers and deliver returns to shareholders.

Indigenous, Traditional and Tribal Peoples

Indigenous, Traditional and Tribal Peoples

We are committed to working with Indigenous, Traditional and Tribal Peoples to ensure mining and cultural heritage can co-exist.

Many of our operations and projects intersect areas of cultural significance and we understand we have a critical role to play in minimising impact and preserving cultural heritage.
