South Africa Manganese hands over state-of-the-art paediatric unit

09 FEBRUARY 2024

Our South Africa Manganese operation has handed over a newly upgraded state-of-the-art 28 bed paediatric unit at Tshwaragano Hospital.

This R-12 million upgraded unit was developed in partnership with the Department of Health and will help to ease overcrowding and give more young people access to hospital beds and high-quality health care.

The unit will provide a range of care options from general patients to high care and intensive care unit rooms, including a kangaroo mother care room where preterm infants and low birth weight babies are given special care.

South Africa Manganese Vice President Operations, Barry Bezuidenhout, said: “We are committed to supporting our local communities and working together to support the government in delivering primary healthcare and community health and wellness services. This is at the heart of our purpose which is to make a difference by developing natural resources, improving people's lives now and for generations to come.”

The construction of this project created 33 temporary jobs for the local community.

We’re proud to be a part of this initiative which is just one of the ways we are investing in the health and social wellbeing of our communities and creating brighter futures together.
