As part of our ‘10 for 10’ community initiative, US$10,000 in funding has been provided to the Bringing Back Hope (BBH) Centre in the Kuruman region of South Africa.
The BBH Centre was established to raise awareness and provide support for children with special needs, including Autism, Down Syndrome and ADHD. The centre focuses on helping children develop academic and life skills, from reading and writing to preparing simple meals, tidying beds and washing dishes, giving them confidence and independence in everyday life.
Nominated by Masego Booysen, Specialist Maintenance Analysis and Improvement at our Hotazel Manganese Mines operation, the project has special meaning for her and her family.
“This initiative is close to my heart because the centre has supported my son in addressing his speech and fine motor skill challenges, enabling him to grow and learn life skills,” Masego said. “It’s also created more understanding in our community about how to support children with special needs.”
The funding will be used to install a modular classroom equipped with furniture and air conditioning. The structure can be relocated if the centre moves, ensuring it remains a long-term investment in the community.
“This project will make it possible for more children to receive the support they need in a comfortable learning environment,” Masego said. “It’s about giving every child the chance to reach their potential.”
By supporting the BBH Centre, we’re helping create a more inclusive and understanding community, one where every child is given the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
