Supporting the arts in Mozambique

Talented artists recognised at Mozal Arts and Culture Awards

Talented artists across a range of disciplines have been recognised for their achievements at the 2019 Mozal Arts and Culture Awards.

Established in 2018 by the Kulungwana Association in conjunction with our Mozal operation in Mozambique, the awards recognise excellence and innovation in music, theatre, visual arts, photography, dance, cinema & audiovisual, and design & fashion.

The 21 finalists across the seven categories came together for a gala award ceremony in Maputo, attended by government representatives, the award judges and supporters of the arts.

Category winners received a cheque for 120,000 Mts to invest in their artistic endeavours.

In his acceptance speech, winner of the music category Deltino Guerreiro acknowledged Mozal for sponsoring the awards.

“I come from a very modest family in a rural village and I have exchanged farm land for a concert stage, an axe for a microphone and a hoe for a guitar,” Deltino said.

“I never imagined I was going to become such a blessed person, thank you all for the support.”
