Proudly supporting South Africa’s ‘Science Oscars’

South32 is proudly supporting South Africa’s best and brightest contributors to research and development in the fields of science, engineering and technology as a sponsor of the annual National Science & Technology Forum (NSTF) South32 Awards.

The Awards are known as South Africa’s ‘Science Oscars’ for recognising the contributions of individuals and institutions to research and innovation.

During a speech at the gala dinner, Calvin Mkhabela, Vice President Operations, Hillside Aluminium, said the sponsorship aligns with our focus on technology and innovation.

He added: “The Awards complement our education and skills development initiatives across South Africa. For any organisation or country to be successful, a solid foundation of skills in the fields of science, technology and innovation are prerequisites.”

Jansie Neihaus, Executive Director of NSTF, said: “These awards have always meant a great deal to the scientific community and we have seen participation increase year on year.”

NSTF also runs the Brilliants program, where a female and male student are selected from each province to participate in a program of events designed to provide advice and encouragement to pursue their goals in science, engineering and technology.
