Cannington helps build a bridge

A year since devastating floods hit North West Queensland in Australia, a $100,000 donation we made to the Cloncurry Shire Council has helped re-open a bridge in the outback town.

The Carl Katter Bridge suffered major structural damage during the floods and was closed to traffic before the upgrade took place.

Cannington Vice President Operations, Rob Jackson said we’re proud to support communities we’re a part of.

“It’s great to see our donation has helped to connect communities across North Queensland, providing new and improved infrastructure in times of need,” he said.

Cloncurry Mayor, Greg Campbell said he and the Council were very happy with the support from South32, which had been critical to many industries in the Shire.

“When the floods hit last year, we knew that we would be in for a lot of hard work and heartache before getting back to normal, but with South32 coming forward and supporting the community that they work in, it has made it just that little bit easier,” he said.
