Worsley Alumina supports stronger emergency response in its region

In Boddington, South32’s investment has strengthened locally led emergency response capability, building on a long-standing tradition of community action.

A key asset supporting bushfire response is the town’s fire command vehicle, retained and transformed by the community and used to coordinate incidents on the ground.

Originally purchased as a local ambulance, the vehicle has retained and repurposed by volunteer brigades into a mobile incident command centre.

Support from South32 has helped upgrade the vehicle, ensuring it remains fit for purpose and provides a safe, effective base on the fireground.

It plays a vital role in supporting volunteers and crews during major bushfire events.

This builds on South32’s bushfire recovery support in Boddington earlier this year, including infrastructure repairs across the community and support for local firefighting capability.

In nearby Wandering, South32’s support has helped address critical gaps identified during the January bushfires.

When power was lost ahead of the fire impacting the township, communication and access to fuel were significantly affected—making it harder for residents and emergency responders to operate effectively.

Working with the Shire, South32’s funding has enabled new backup power solutions, ensuring essential services can continue operating during outages.

The generators now provide reliable power to maintain communications, support fuel access and assist firefighting operations when they are needed most.
