Urban search and rescue training

26 AUGUST 2018

We hosted a joint safety training exercise.

Our Worsley Alumina Emergency Services Team hosted a joint training session with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), St John Ambulance and local volunteer fire and rescue services recently to simulate an urban search and rescue situation.

Designed to simulate a building collapse, the night-time exercise was staged among piles of concrete and rubble to provide participants with a sizeable and realistic training scenario.

Teams then went through a range of exercises including initial response, structure assessment and above ground searches to help locate, identify and rescue casualties.

Worsley Alumina has a Memorandum of Understanding with DFES which recognises the importance of staging joint training exercises to help keep our local communities safe.
