Cerro Matoso's higher education scholarship program
Our Cerro Matoso operation in Colombia is giving young people in the local community the opportunity to achieve their academic dreams through its higher education scholarship program.
One hundred scholarships have been awarded since 2014 and twenty-three students have already graduated with university degrees.
President Cerro Matoso, Ricardo Gaviria said the scholarship program was developing future leaders for the local community and beyond.
“It’s been fantastic to see the students grow over the last few years and achieve great things,” he said.
A recipient of our program, Erika, said her family was her inspiration.
“My education will enable me to support my family and improve their lives.”
“South32 gave me an opportunity that I otherwise wouldn’t have had access to. This won’t only benefit my family and I, but my community too.”
The scholarships cover tuition fees, travel expenses and living costs for the students as they complete their studies.
