Mount Kembla Public School students enjoy their refurbished library
Mount Kembla Public School in New South Wales, Australia has refurbished its library thanks to a significant grant from our Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) operation.
IMC contributed AU$47,500 for the upgrades, which include new books, games, shelving, carpet, walls and seating. There’s also an improved meeting space for parents and the local Citizens Association.
Mount Kembla Public School Teacher and Librarian, Ainsley Larosa, said: “This is fantastic for the students, it’s a great improvement. We are very grateful for South32’s support.”
IMC Vice President Operations Wayne Bull said: “South32 is committed to making a positive contribution to the communities where we operate and I’m delighted we’ve been able to help with this project.
“Quality education changes lives and we’re proud to support Mount Kembla Public School students with their ongoing development, especially their love of reading,” Wayne said.
Funding for the library refurbishment came from IMC’s Dendrobium Community Enhancement Program (DCEP). The DCEP was established in 2004 to support community projects and initiatives in the local area surrounding Dendrobium Mine.
