Partnering with POSCO to fund tree planting and sustainability programs

20 MAY 2022

We've partnered with POSCO to fund tree planting and sustainability programs

We’ve partnered with our steel-making customer POSCO to fund a tree planting program in South Korea and a community investment project in Australia.

Together, we’ll fund a total of US$200,000 for the program over the next two years, supporting the planting of 10,000 trees in the bushfire-affected region of Hongcheon County in Gangwon Province, South Korea. In Australia, we will jointly fund a natural resource resilience project, to be rolled out in 2023.

As well as helping to revitalise areas impacted by bushfires, the planting of new trees supports ecosystem resilience and promotes the health and wellbeing of local communities.

Our Chief Human Resources and Commercial Officer, Brendan Harris, said: “As a global company, South32 is passionate about supporting communities and we are proud to partner with POSCO on this great initiative.”

“We work hard to be responsible stewards of the environment and initiatives under this partnership will help to support local biodiversity and provide enduring positive change for future generations.”

POSCO created its ‘Go the Extra Mile’ matching fund in 2019 with the aim of building better futures for the communities where it operates.

In addition to the initiatives in South Korea, South32 and POSCO will jointly fund a natural resource resilience project, to be rolled out in Australia in 2023.
