New windows help protect historic St David’s Catholic Church

30 APRIL 2026

St David’s Catholic Church, nestled in the Worsley Forest, has stood as a quiet landmark of the Collie River Valley for 118 years.

The historic timber church has recently been fitted with a full set of newly restored windows, funded with support from South32 Worsley Alumina, helping to protect the building well into the future.

Built in 1908, the church’s original sash-style windows had deteriorated significantly over time. The thin plate glass left the building exposed to the elements, increasing the risk of damage to both the structure and its interior.

The new windows have been carefully installed to improve safety and weather protection while retaining the historic character of the church. This work supports the long-term preservation of St David’s as an important community asset and educational site, ensuring its story can continue to be shared with future generations.

Located on the edge of the former Worsley townsite, the church remains a familiar and much-loved feature of the local landscape. It is open to the public at all times and, by arrangement, can be used for community events, ceremonies and gatherings.

Maintained with care by the local Worsley community, St David’s Catholic Church remains one of the Collie River Valley’s most significant heritage buildings, with the window restoration marking another important step in safeguarding this special place.
