New bridges restore access for more than 70,000 people near Mozal Aluminium

04 DECEMBER 2025

The Djuba and Djonasse communities in Mozambique have reached an important milestone with the completion and handover of two new bridges funded by our Mozal Aluminium operation along the K16 to Beluluane road.

The project was officially opened last month with local government and community leaders in attendance.

For years, this route has been heavily impacted during the rainy season. Flooding often washed away access points and left families cut off from schools, medical care and markets. The new bridges now provide safer, more reliable access throughout the year and are already easing day-to-day travel for thousands of people.

Mozal Aluminium Country President, Samuel Gudo, said the project responds directly to a long-standing need in the community. “With this investment, we are helping restore mobility, dignity and opportunity for more than 70,000 people. These bridges will support access to education, essential services and local economic activity, particularly during the wet season.”

At the opening, the Governor of Maputo Province, Manuel Tule, acknowledged Mozal Aluminium as a valued partner and welcomed the positive impact the project will have across the region.

Community members also shared their gratitude with one local leader saying “When it rained, we were cut off for weeks. Children missed school, the sick were left without help, and life came to a standstill. That is why these bridges represent a true victory for our community.”

With an investment of 71.6 million Meticais (approximately USD$1.1 million), we are helping make every day travel safer and more reliable for people across the surrounding suburbs.
