NAIDOC Week 2025 – Celebrating culture and connection

16 JULY 2025

Across Australia, our teams came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week last week, recognising the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, invited us to reflect on the knowledge passed down by Elders and the role we can all play in supporting young people to carry that legacy forward.

Here’s how we brought this year’s NAIDOC theme to life across some of our sites and locations:

  • At GEMCO, our team joined the Groote Eylandt community for a cultural celebration featuring damper-making, jewellery stalls, land and sea ranger displays, and family activities. We also proudly supported the local NAIDOC Awards and helped serve a community lunch.

  • In Perth, employees and their families attended our new office for a NAIDOC-themed welcome event. The day included a Welcome to Country by Whadjuk Noongar Elder Barry Winmar, a weaving circle with artists from Anindilyakwa Arts, and a short film showcasing how their ghost net artwork was created on Groote Eylandt. There were also family-friendly activities like Indigenous themed rock painting and bracelet making, a bush tucker-themed lunch, and guided office tours.

  • At Worsley Alumina, we celebrated the unveiling of commissioned artworks by local Indigenous artists, including 13-year-old emerging talent, Donald Turvey. These artworks will be featured at the Bunbury Port, Boddington Bauxite Mine and our Collie Refinery. The event brought together our employees, artists and community members to recognise culture and creativity.

  • At Cannington, NAIDOC activities will take place later this month to align with local community events.

NAIDOC Week is one of the many ways we continue to support reconciliation through meaningful relationships and recognition of culture across our business.
