Illawarra Metallurgical Coal hosts Federal Environment Minister, Sussan Ley
It was a pleasure to host Federal Environment Minister, The Hon Sussan Ley, on a tour of our Illawarra Metallurgical Coal operation’s Appin Gas Drainage Plant.
In partnership with EDL, the plant has been capturing enough waste methane to generate electricity for 60,000 homes a year. It's also the proposed site of the Ventilation Air Methane (VAM) abatement trial that we're working on with Australia's science agency, CSRIO.
By supporting the development of VAM abatement technologies, we’ll help to increase the effectiveness of methane capture at low concentrations in ventilation air, in a safe manner. If successful, it would represent a significant advancement for the industry.
