Hillside Aluminium donates 25 mobile classrooms to schools in the local community
Our team at Hillside Aluminium recently donated 25 mobile classrooms to schools in the King Cetshwayo district, South Africa.
Schools in South Africa have been experiencing issues with overcrowding, made even more challenging by COVID-19 and the need to socially distance.
Working in partnership with the Department of Education, we contributed R7.2 million towards the construction and fitout of the mobile classrooms for eight schools in the district.
Hillside Vice President Operations, Calvin Mkhabela said the project was a demonstration of our purpose in action.
“These additional classrooms will alleviate the overcrowding in schools, while also keeping learners safe during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Calvin said.
In the 2021 financial year, we invested US$22.2 million in community initiatives and activities, with 32 per cent going to support education and leadership initiatives. Learn more in our Sustainable Development Report.
