Hillside Aluminium team helps local communities
Our teams at Hillside Aluminium have been working hard to keep the local community safe and well during these challenging times by donating hand sanitiser, masks, hygiene packs, water, water storage tanks and food supplies to those that need it most.
They have been assisting the community with awareness, prevention and how to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
They also delivered biscuits and sweets to children in and around Richards Bay, where the smelter is situated, and baby packs for maternity wards.
Vice President Operations at Hillside, Calvin Mkhabela, said: “These are really testing times but the smiles and warmth from those we meet as part of our community outreach is absolutely amazing. It makes our hearts beam to be able to make a difference.”
The team has been helping distribute resources and awareness materials in both English and isiZulu and worked together with the local newspaper to create a children’s activity pack, to keep little ones busy during the national lockdown which can be downloaded here.
Some of the recipients include House of Shalom, iKhaya Lika Baba, Queen Nandi Hospital, local police and St Aidan’s Mission Hospital.
