Helping those people affected by Cyclone Dineo

In February 2017, Cyclone Dineo hit Mozambique and caused havoc, destroying public and private infrastructure, and devastating crops and agriculture in the province of Inhambane in Mozambique. The Mozambican government appealed for humanitarian aid, and our team at Mozal responded quickly and generously.

We were able to provide a donation of seven million meticais (approximately US$100,000) to Instituto Nacional de Gestão de Calamidades (INGC), to help affected schools and hospitals and other public amenities, and a further one million five hundred and eighteen meticais (approximately US$22,000) for the repair of orphanages belonging to the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters (CONFHIC).

Mozal’s Vice President Operations, Samo Gudo, said: “Our hearts go out to the people who were affected by Cyclone Dineo. We are committed to the communities in which we operate and to supporting them as they work to repair vital infrastructure for the people of Inhambane.”
