Manny Bustamante, Principal Risk and Improvement Corporate Supply, based at our Hermosa project, has seen first-hand the benefits organisations like the Santa Cruz Training Programs (SCTP) can have on the community.
Located in the town of Nogales near Hermosa, SCTP offers local programs and services to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, enabling them to stay with their families, instead of having to travel or live away for support.
Manny has a nephew with autism, who he’s watched thrive thanks to services like those provided by SCTP. With a strong belief in the concept that “no one is left behind”, when Manny heard about our ‘10 for 10’ community initiative, he was quick to nominate SCTP for support.
His nomination was successful, and SCTP will receive US$10,000 to go towards repairs of a building where their Day Treatment and Training for Adults program runs. There, participants learn a variety of social and life skills, which help them build social resilience and experience the world. They can put them straight into practice too, learning on the job at SCTP’s in-house nursery, greenhouse, bakery and café – experience to help them gain future employment.
Manny said that supporting local organisations like SCTP was crucial.
“They provide invaluable services to individuals with disabilities, and help foster a sense of community and belonging, so no one is left behind,” Manny said.
“By offering employment opportunities, day programs, and residential support, the impact they can have on enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities, as well as contributing to the community, is profound.”
