Giving families a glimpse of our work at Dendrobium

03 MAY 2023

It’s always special to be able to share our work and achievements with our families, but in an industry like mining that is often easier said than done.

This past weekend, Dendrobium Mine at Illawarra Metallurgical Coal invited the partners and families of its workforce for an Open Day to see and experience what their loved ones do at work, with over 1,000 people attending the day.

Families met at the grounds of a nearby school where they were treated to carnival rides, showbags, food and coffee vans. The event also included kids activities and merchandise bags, and the chance to check out an Electric Mine Cruiser up close.

From there, families were given special PPE before being taken out in tour groups to check out the underground mine, pit top or washery plant.

At each location, staff were on hand to show the groups around and explain the work that their loved ones do while they are on site.

All up, 700 attendees took part in tours and 450 kids merchandise bags were handed out on the day, with over 60 IMC staff volunteering their time to help make the day possible.

“This event was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our operation and celebrate the amazing team that make it all possible,” said Simon Thomas, Dendrobium Mine General Manager.

“It was heart-warming to see all the smiling faces of kids as they learnt about what their parents do at work. It was a special day full of memories that they will cherish forever. I’d like to extend a special thanks to our team members who volunteered on the day to pull it all together.”
