Our Groote Eylandt leadership program designed for a sustainable post-mining future
Meet Kyanna from our GEMCO operation in Australia’s Northern Territory. She’s one of the first participants selected for our recently launched Anindilyakwa Future Leaders Program on Groote Eylandt, where GEMCO is located.
The program is designed to give participants the skills to pursue meaningful careers and become future leaders in their community. It looks beyond the life of GEMCO and supports the Anindilyakwa peoples’ vision for self-determination and a sustainable post mining future.
"I wanted to take part in the program to be a role model for my younger siblings and community members, so they can look up to me and know that anything is achievable if they put their minds to it,” Kyanna said.
Kyanna, who currently works in the corporate affairs team at GEMCO, plans to use the leadership skills she develops from the program to help achieve a goal she’s had since high school.
“In the next five years, I aim to be the first Aboriginal woman from Groote Eylandt to become a midwife who is based here on the island.”
