There was lots of fun to be had at our GEMCO operation’s Picnic Day celebrations
There was lots of fun to be had at our GEMCO operation’s Picnic Day celebrations, the biggest event on Groote Eylandt’s social calendar.
More than a thousand people joined the festivities, which included Aboriginal music and dance performances, local market stalls, fireworks and a bouncy castle.
Elder Silas Bara welcomed everyone to the traditional lands of the Bara, Jaragba and Wurragagwa people and a local band performed traditional dances of the Anindilyakwa people, with children encouraged to join in the sharing of culture.
Picnic Day is an annual public holiday in the Northern Territory of Australia.
