South32 has marked ten years of supporting the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) Awards, a milestone that highlights our long-standing support for science, engineering and innovation in South Africa.
Held in Johannesburg and Cape Town last week, the awards celebrate excellence in science, technology, engineering and innovation, recognising the people and breakthroughs driving progress across sectors, including mining and metals.
As part of the evening, Senior Manager External Affairs, Noleen Dube, joined the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Blade Nzimande, to present the prestigious NSTF Lifetime Award to Professor Liza Korsten. Professor Korsten was honoured for her contribution to food safety and agricultural sustainability.
“The NSTF Awards shine a light on the people driving real progress through science and innovation. We’re proud to support initiatives like this that recognise excellence, support education, and help create brighter futures for young people and communities in South Africa,” said Noleen.
South32 is also a proud supporter of the NSTF Brilliants Program, which recognises top-performing students in maths and science and helps connect them with future study and career opportunities in STEM. Each year, the students attend the awards gala, meet mentors and potential employers, and are supported through bursaries and exchange opportunities.
Our continued partnership with NSTF reflects our belief that the sustainable development of natural resources can help change lives for the better. By supporting education, innovation and access to opportunity, we’re contributing to social and economic value where we operate – and helping create brighter futures, together.
Congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients!
