Cannington supports STEM workshops

Cannington mentors the next generation of scientists, engineers and coders

Employees from our Cannington operation have given the next generation of scientists, engineers and coders an insight into the mining industry at a STEM4Schoolkids workshop.

With the help of South32 mentors, students from St Laurence’s College in Brisbane worked through some hands-on activities and saw first-hand the central role STEM plays in the minerals and energy sector.

This is one of several Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) events that will be held at schools across Queensland this year, proudly supported by South32.

Cannington Vice President Operations, Rob Jackson said: “These activities give students a behind the scenes look at life in the resources sector and help them to see the pathway to that career.

“STEM disciplines offer a pathway to interesting and technologically advanced jobs with global opportunities".

The QMEA is a partnership between the Queensland Resources Council and the Queensland Government under its Gateway to Industry Schools program.
