Turning waste into bricks for Cerro Matoso’s local communities.
The issue of what to do with the downstream by-products of our manganese mining has been high on our list of research projects for a long time. And now, after years of studies and working with international experts from the International Manganese Institute, our Metalloys team has tested a solution that will have far-reaching beneficial effects.
The potential for our downstream ‘slag’ material to be useful in the brick-making and related industries has been proven – and that will help create jobs in the community as well as reduce our waste production.
So now, local communities will be able to build homes, while we’re reducing our environmental footprint.
