Building capability with Bush Medijina

At GEMCO, we’ve partnered with Bush Medijina to build capability. Set up three years ago, the company produces balms, soaps and body butter using traditional bush recipes passed down through generations.

For the Warnindilyakwa elders, their vision was clear: build culture and capability through a sustainable, independent enterprise. Taught by their mothers, aunties and grandmothers, the team of women from Bush Medijina harvest native bush plants, such as small-leaved paperbark tree, broad leaved wattle, wild peach tree and jungle current, and combine them with natural and sustainable ingredients to create their products.

We understand the importance of creating and sustaining a positive legacy, even after our operations are finished. Our financial support for Bush Medijina helps the business showcase its incredible products beyond the Groote Eylandt archipelago, and work together to achieve better outcomes in education, wellbeing, values and culture.
