Bridging the education gap

Bridging the education gap

Worsley Alumina has partnered with the Teach Learn Grow program to provide valuable one-on-one tutoring and mentoring at Boddington District High School in Western Australia.

Worsley’s community investment funding of $10,000 supports Teach Learn Grow’s tuition and mentoring program, which sees university students volunteer in schools for two weeks over the school year.

Rural and remote school students face many challenges and figures show that on average they underperform when compared to metropolitan students, particularly in numeracy and literacy.  Teach Learn Grow’s intensive program helps to bridge this education gap.

In 2018, 34 primary school students and 12 high school students at Boddington District High School benefited from the one-on-one tutoring and weekly e-mentoring sessions. Teach Learn Grow volunteers also assisted with out of school activities like sports coaching, umpiring and other social activities.
