David Crawford AO

Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director

David Crawford South32-209

David has extensive experience in risk management and business reorganisation. He has worked as a consultant, scheme manager, receiver, manager and liquidator to very large and complex companies.

David was previously Australian National Chairman of KPMG, Chartered Accountants. He also chairs South32’s nomination and governance committee and sits on the risk and audit committee.


Graham Kerr

Graham has been at the helm of South32 as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since the beginning. He successfully led the establishment of the company and its public listing in three countries.  

Graham is responsible for running all aspects of the business and has a strong track record in global resource development. He is passionate about health, safety and sustainability.

Before joining South32, Graham worked in a wide range of roles across the BHP Billiton Group, including as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2011 to 2014. He also spent two years at Iluka Resources as General Manager Commercial.

He is a Certified Practicing Accountant.


Frank Cooper AO

Frank has more than 35 years’ experience in the accounting profession, specialising in the mining, energy and utilities sectors before taking on a number of Non-Executive Director roles in 2012.  

He chairs South32’s risk and audit committee and is a member of the remuneration and the nomination and governance committees.

 


Dr Xolani Mkhwanazi

Non-Independent Non-Executive Director

Xolani was previously President and COO of South Africa Aluminium with BHP Billiton and was chair of BHP Billiton in South Africa from 2009 to 2015. He has served as CEO of Bateman Africa Ltd and the National Electricity Regulator and held senior positions at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. 

He is a member of South32’s sustainability committee. 

 


Dr Ntombifuthi (Futhi) Mtoba

Independent Non-Executive Director

Futhi previously chaired Deloitte Southern Africa, where she specialised in financial services. She is a Past President of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) and a past member of the Board of United Nations Global Compact. 

Her numerous awards include Business Woman of the Year (Nedbank and Business Women’s Association, 2004) and International Woman of the Year (Organisation of Women in International Trade, 2005).
Futhi is a member of South32’s risk and audit committee and the nomination and governance committee.


Wayne Osborn

Independent Non-Executive Director

Wayne has more than 35 years experience in the Australian mining, resources and manufacturing sectors. He joined Alcoa in 1979 where he worked in a variety of roles and locations across the Australian business, before being appointed Managing Director, Alcoa of Australia in 2001.  He retired from Alcoa of Australia in 2008. 

Wayne chairs South32’s remuneration committee and is a member of the sustainability committee and the nomination and governance committee. 


Keith Rumble

Independent Non-Executive Director

Keith was previously CEO of SUN Mining, a wholly-owned entity of the SUN Group. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the resources industry, specifically in titanium and platinum mining. Keith is a former CEO of Impala Platinum (Pty) Ltd and former CEO of Rio Tinto Iron and Titanium Inc in Canada.

Keith has also worked as a principal investor and private equity fund manager in Russia, India and other emerging and transforming markets. 
He chairs South32’s sustainability committee, is a member of the remuneration committee and the nomination and governance committee.

Brendan Harris

Chief Financial Officer

Graham KerrBrendan started as South32’s chief financial officer right from the beginning and played an integral role in the set-up, demerger and listing of the company.

He is responsible for corporate reporting, corporate affairs, investor relations, risk and assurance, tax, treasury and planning.

Before joining South32 Brendan was Head of Investor Relations at BHP Billiton (2011 to 2014) and Vice President Investor Relations Australasia from July 2010. He has held various roles in investment banking including Executive Director Metals and Mining Research at Macquarie Equities. 


Mike Fraser

President and Chief Operating Officer, Africa 

Graham KerrMike was appointed President and COO, Africa in January 2015 and oversaw the set-up of the Africa region for South32. 

Before his current role Mike worked with BHP Billiton for nearly 15 years, where he served as President of Human Resources and was a member of BHP Billiton’s Group Management Committee. Mike has held several senior roles including Asset President of the Mozal operation in Mozambique, as well as various positions in BHP Billiton’s coal, manganese and aluminium businesses. 

 


Nicole Duncan

Chief People and Legal Officer

Nicole Duncan South32-019Nicole commenced in the role of Chief People and Legal Officer in July 2017. Prior to that she held the positions of Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary. Nicole is accountable for the Human Resources functions across South32, as well as the Company Secretariat, Legal and Compliance teams.

Prior to South32, Nicole was Vice President, Company Secretariat for BHP Billiton. Nicole also held the position of Vice President, Supply, Group Information Management from 2011 to 2013. During her career, she held various legal roles in Australia, the United States and the Netherlands.

Nicole graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of History (Hons).

Paul Harvey

Paul was appointed Chief Operating Officer for the Australia region in April 2017. Prior to this he held the position of Chief Transformation Officer for South32. During his tenure as Chief Transformation Officer, Paul was seconded to our Africa Region for six months to lead the implementation of our Care Strategy.

Prior to his secondment, Paul was responsible for Information Technology, Sustainability and Reporting functions, the area of Corporate People and the South32 Shared Services Centre.

Before joining South32, Paul was the Asset President at Nickel West from 2012, having been Asset President at BHP Billiton’s Ekati operation in Canada from 2009 to 2012. He has held operations management, major capital project directorships, business planning, and strategy and growth leadership roles in the uranium, base metals and diamonds and specialty product sectors.


 


Rowena Smith

Chief Sustainability Officer

Rowena SmithRowena was appointed Chief Sustainability Officer in August 2017 and has overall responsibility for Health, Safety, Environment, Sustainability and Security. Rowena has been Vice President Supply, Australia Region for South32 since March 2015 heading up a large team of people in Australia and South America providing commercial, sourcing and logistical services to our operations. 

Prior to joining South32 Rowena worked with BHP Billiton Nickel West as Head of Resource Planning and Development and also held senior roles in marketing and operations, including General Manager, Kwinana Nickel Refinery. Prior to that Rowena worked in operational leadership roles within Rio Tinto’s aluminium smelting business.

Peter Finnimore

Chief Marketing Officer

Peter Finnimore

Peter was appointed Chief Marketing Officer in August 2017 after having been Head of Marketing for South32 since May 2015. He has over 25 years of global experience in logistics and marketing.

Prior to joining South32, Peter held various roles in BHP Billiton, including Vice President Marketing Aluminium in The Hague and led the consolidation of the Aluminium and Stainless Steel Materials Marketing teams in August 2012. In 2013, Peter was appointed Vice President Marketing Aluminium, Manganese & Nickel based out of Singapore. Previously, Peter worked in various marketing roles in Japan, Australia, Russia, Cyprus and Switzerland, including for Rio Tinto and Rusal.


Johan Coetzee

Chief Technology Officer

Johan Coetzee

Johan was appointed to the position of Chief Technology Officer in August 2017 in an acting capacity. Prior to this role Johan was the Vice President of Planning and Development, Africa, for South32.

Prior to joining South32, Johan held the roles of General Manager, Operations at Mozal Alumina and Vice President Health, Safety, Environment and Community from 2009 to 2011 at BHP.

Johan’s career has included both Operational and Commercial roles, spanning Health, Safety, Environment, Business Development and Marketing across Africa, Singapore and London.  

Johan has a Chemical Engineering Degree from the University of Stellenbosch and Masters in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa.
