It’s pleasing to see so many more women working in our industry than ever before, and we’re delighted that the industry encourages more diverse workplaces by celebrating the achievements of women. It’s even better when our own team members are among the celebrated.
In 2017, our TEMCO team members Jen Bennett (VP Operations TEMCO) and Kayla Williams (Apprentice Fitter & Turner) were presented with Highly Commended Awards at the Tasmanian Women In Resources Awards hosted by the Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Council and the AusIMM Women in Mining Network Tasmania.
We were also proud to see three of our outstanding team members named as Finalists in their categories – Kayla Williams for Outstanding Tasmanian Tradeswoman, Operator or Technician in Resources; and Annette Hennessy and Jenny Bennett in the Exceptional Woman in Tasmanian Resources category.
Ted Bradshaw, Chairman, AusIMM Women in Mining Network Tasmania (WIMnet) said: “The number and quality of nominations received in 2017 reflects the growing interest in these awards and the commitment of companies in this sector to achieving greater gender diversity.
"Resource sector bodies throughout Australia have been promoting the value of increasing the number of women at all levels within the sector, and these awards form part of that aim, creating awareness of inspirational women working in the sector, and encouraging other women to consider it as a career path.”
Congratulations to Jen, Kayla and Annette. Jen Bennett summed it up best, saying: "We all did South32 proud!"
