Our South Africa Energy Coal (SAEC) operation recently awarded maintenance service contracts to two local businesses as part of its ongoing focus to empower female entrepreneurs in the community.
To support the enterprises to grow and become sustainable we have also provided funding for new equipment and training in a range of disciplines including financial management and human resources.
Three-year contracts have been awarded to Siyanqobangamandla Trading and Sisebenta Sonke to undertake regular maintenance work at our Wolvekrans, Middelburg and Khutala collieries. The businesses are 100 per cent owned by women.
Kgabi Masia, SAEC President, said it was encouraging to see women in South Africa starting their own businesses. “It is up to us as industry to support entrepreneurs in the community and help remove the barriers that they face,” Kgabi said.
