Emergency response teams from our Illawarra Metallurgical Coal operation achieved a great result at the 60th Southern Mines Rescue competition, taking home first and second place.

The annual event is a fun way for emergency response teams across the region to hone their skills, which are critical to ensure the safety and wellbeing of people working in the mining industry.

Hosted at our Dendrobium mine, seven teams competed in both surface and underground activities such as first aid, theory, firefighting, search and rescue and gas detection.

Dendrobium Mine General Manager, Neville McAlary, said the event was important for the mining industry.

Mr McAlary added: “This is a great way to showcase our safety initiatives and to ensure our people are well-equipped to handle potential emergency situations.

“It is critical that our site emergency response teams are prepared with the right training and skills to respond in the event of an incident.”
